Why are we always chasing the gap?

When it comes to success, money, love, you name it, the only measure we have is from what we had to what we have. And the bigger the gap we close, the better it feels for us. The more meaningful that jump is.

Someone having $100 a month in their bank account and suddenly accumulating $5,000 dollars a month feels amazing. They are on top of the world, struggling to eat and pay rent. Too all of a sudden not having to worry about the essentials anymore. They can focus their attention on other things like getting some books, going out to eat, or getting some new clothes, etc. Now compare that to someone who has $100,000,000 dollars and suddenly gets another million. That person wouldn't feel as amazing as the $5k person, even though they just increased their new wealth by 1 million dollars all of a sudden.

How we measure determines how we feel. A few hundred followers to thousands of followers. Having no one see your work to everyone buying your work or product. It's crazy how something so massive to one person is peanuts to another. What is life or death to someone else isn't even considered by the next person.

When we look at our lives and picture our young teenage selves, do you think they would be amazed at what you have done and what you have accumulated in your life? Even the knowledge you have obtained would blow your teenage self out of the water. You have done so much. But we don't think like that. We mostly think in a scarcity mindset. "I need more, I need to do this or have this or be this." And it's not a chasing happiness kind of thing; it's just human nature to want more, to be more, to do better.

I implore you to reflect every now and then and pat yourself on the back because you are still here. You are still breathing, doing, and making. Who cares if no one is watching, and who cares if everyone is watching? We would still do it regardless.

I personally want to write more, put my work out more, and even express my thoughts and learning’s on other platforms more. And it's scary, but even if I only have one or two readers of this blog and only a few hundred followers on social media, that doesn't deter me in the slightest. Because even though I might have a big gap to jump, it's just knowing one day, even if it's done through jumping across smaller goals.

Be humble and know that that big gap of desire will always be there. But look behind you at all those other crevasse you have already jumped across. You're good. Keep going; you'll get there.
