Rain or shine
Recently I was walking to work in the early hours of dawn when suddenly the clouds closed above and the sky fell. It felt like I was in my morning shower again. My clothes were soaked, my shoes wear wet through. I didn't have a change of garments or even a towel to dry off once I reached work. I would enviability be drenched, dripping through the foyer. Whilst I was walking in the rain, the motorway onramp was adjacent to me. Figures peering, warm, dry, comfortable in their metal cages on wheels. Void of smiles resulting from the congestion of traffic. But I had a smile on my face. I was happy. Outside walking in the cold wet rain, it made my day.
For many of us, we dread getting caught in the rain, getting soaked through cold and wet. It feels horrible and can affect our whole day. It's inconvenient, having to change clothes, dry off and get warm. Most people dread the rain, dark clouds filled with precipitation that could fall at any minute. In moments like these, we dream of summer weather.
Perspective is everything. Getting caught in the rain can easily ruin one's day. In juxtaposition, the rain can invigorate someone's day. How can the exact same circumstance have different results? We are all human, we all feel and have emotions. Where the difference lies is in our perspective. How we as individuals perceive the world.
Misery loves company, and ignorance is bliss. How we see the world shapes and changes that world. This might sound airy-fairy or spiritual jargon crap, but trust me here. We as individuals can change the world around us. We can affect peoples lives. Lasting change does take collaborations. So the next best thing is changing one's perspective. It's the cup half full or half empty kinda thing?
Changing one's outlook on life necessitates self-awareness. It requires reflection and critique. Reproach with guidance to change. The key element to this equation, one must want change, ameliorate themselves. You can bring a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. The same philosophy goes for everyone in this world. We must be willing to evolve.
We underestimate how powerful we are, we can achieve prodigious feats when we concentrate our minds. I used to subscribe to pessimistic characteristics. I see the faults, not intentionally being deconstructive, but because I yearned to help, to improve and make it better. When someone pointed out that I was portrayed as negative, I became self-aware resulting in reform. My outlook on life no longer point out problems to fix, rather pivoted to acceptance and stillness (not voicing my thoughts). As a result, my relationships grow stronger, the way I viewed the world resembled virtue
It's only by changing ourselves that we can start to dance in the rain. Articulated in wiser words of an author. "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain." - Vivian Greene
