Wasted time

We are what we repeatedly do. We are the actions we take not the words we say. How you live today is how you live your life. In saying that what did you do today? What did you do to better yourself and your aspirations in photography? Indiana Jones said it best “If you want to be a good archaeologist, you gotta get out of the library!” or in other words, "If you want to be a good photographer you gotta get off the internet!”

“Every habit and capability is confirmed and grows in its corresponding actions, walking by walking, and running by running … therefore, if you want to do something make a habit of it…” - Epictetus

Make a habit of practising your creativity every day. Pick up a camera, use a camera app, read a photography ebook or simply look at art. Read, write, think, do something that moves you towards your goal, your aspirations, your influences. Do something that gets you closer to the people you aspire to be. Do what they do, everything else is a distraction.

Aristotle said, “therefore, excellence is not an act but a habit.”

What will you make of this day before it turns to dawn and becomes a fleeting memory? If someone asks you, what did you do yesterday, what will be your answer? Do you truly aspire to respond with the answer “Nothing”?

“An archer is highly unlikely to hit a target she did not aim for. The same goes for you, whatever your target.” - The Daily Stoic

Aim for greatness, aspire to join the ranks of the ones most emulated. Become the inspiration others seek. Do the work, put the time into better your craft. Because we capture time with our cameras, a moment frozen forever. Make sure your their every second because once the moment is gone it never comes back. What you choose to do with your time is up to you. I only hope you don’t waste it on insignificance and days where all you can recite is the word 'nothing.'
