I don't have enough time
"You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce." Everyone has the same amount of time, we all work and function around the 24-hour clock. So what's your excuse?
Chase Jarvis said it well. "Replace the word I don't have time, with it's not a priority for me right now." When changing this sentence, you will realise what you have prioritised in your life. When I did this I became aware of what I was wasting my time on. I had 24 hours and I was wasting it. I would always say things like "I'll do that when I have that…" "I'll do that when that person gets back to me." "I'll start it next week." Whatever my excuse was, in all hindsight, it just wasn't a priority for me at the time, when my photography should have been.
I would go to work, do my nine to five, go home, watch some tv, cook dinner, relax, go on social media, then go to bed. That was my life. Nothing special, nothing anyone would write a book about. After a while, it felt very melancholy, like I was in groundhog day or purgatory. So I made the conscious decision, and change what I prioritised.
I know not everyone can do this. I would argue that something's just aren't a priority for others, and that is OK. You do you. But for me, my life was stagnant, stale, predictable. With your photography what do you want that needs to become a priority, where would you like to steer your future? If you keep doing the same thing, you will keep getting the same results. Find the time you consistently waste and see if you can cut it from your life. An example would be, do you really need to be on Instagram for hours on end or do you only need to spend 5 minutes to post that photo, and reply to a few comments?
If you are stuck or procrastinating and become aware of it. Think to yourself, what do I want? What do I want to be? If you keep doing the same thing right now, is that going to get you closer to your goals? Or are you gonna have to change and do something different? You better start now. Thinkings great, thinking gets you to the starting line. But it's that first step that you take, that's what sets you down the path to your goals. You only have 24 hours in a day, so hurry up and take that first step.
